Ten Great Arsenal Goals
64Some of my favourites
In this hub I've brought together some of my favourite Arsenal goals for your viewing pleasure.
Please leave your comments below as to whether you like this selection or if you think I have overlooked some fabulous finishes.
Tony Adams
Tony 'Donkey' Adams, not renowned for his silky skills but seen in this vid steaming forward, with a suaveness and deftness of touch to rival the Dutch masters, to score an absolute belter. Come to think of it, he was probably steaming himself at the time!
Sol Campbell
Big Sol formed a rock solid partnership with Kolo Toure before he went a bit nuts and his career went south, to Portsmouth. This was a screamer against the team that revitalised his career, for a while at least. Having scored a few important goals that didn't count (England VS Portugal for example) he certainly left no doubt about this one.
Charlie George
I wasn't alive to see this one as it happened, but it's a classic Arsenal goal and made the difference in the 1971 FA cup victory over Liverpool. I feel qualified to include it here due to ownership of the 71 final on VHS and because I know a peach when I see one!
Thierry Henry
Some people say that Thierry Henry is arrogant. I think there is a fine line between arrogance and confidence, but when you are as good as Henry is then that line is so far behind you that you're staring down the barrels of perfection. This goal goes some way to back up that statement as Arsenal started to show that they could mix it in Europe.
John Jensen
Signed for Arsenal in 1992 after scoring in Denmark's 2-0 victory over Germany in that years European Championships. However, this was not a sign of things to come. Jensen scored only one goal for Arsenal in 138 appearances. Not a great return, but what a great goal!
Arsenal actually lost the game 3-1 to QPR, boo.
Nwankwo Kanu
Won the champions league with Ajax, recovered from heart surgery whilst at Inter, then graced the Premiership with his awkward yet graceful skills. Kanu scored a hat-trick in 15 minutes in this game to seal victory against Chelsea. His final goal was the pick of the bunch as he made the Chelsea defence look like Chelsea Pensioners!
Freddie Ljungberg
Famous for funny coloured hair, sexy Y-fronts and making devastating late runs into the box. Has recently sold his soul to Hollywood but was superb at Arsenal and , along with Campbell and Henry, was a member of the 'Invincibles'. This is a lovely run and finish to put Arsenal out of sight against Chelsea in the FA cup final.
Nigel Winterburn
As a kid I used to have the same Hi-Tec football boots that Nigel Winterburn wore, so I feel a real connection with Nigel. A great left back, he scored quite a few scorchers from distance and the example below is exactly that. It also happened to be the last minute winner against Chelsea, bonus!
Ian Wright
And finally, a couple of goals from Ian Wright, Wright, Wright! I grew up watching Wrighty smash in goals from all over the place as Arsenal marched to cup final, after glorious cup final in the early nineties. I was also witness to his 100th goal in a 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace! Why is it all these landmark goals are scored in 3-1 defeats?
